Mary Jane Cahoon Moran

February 1, 2019 West Grove, PA Remembered For Her Sense of Imagination and Wonder

Mary Jane Moran died peacefully February 1, 2019, at age 85, at the Preston Building at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community in West Grove, Pennsylvania.

She was born on August 9, 1933 in Victory, Vermont to the late Jessica Stewart Cahoon, and Louis A. Cahoon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Sheehan Moran, whom she married June 1957.

Mary Jane grew up in rural Vermont, attended high school at St. Johnsbury Academy, and left to seek warmer weather and employment after high school graduation. She lived in Rehoboth, Delaware before moving to Wilmington Delaware where she met her husband, married and had four children. The family moved to Chadds Ford Pennsylvania where Mary Jane remained until moving to Jenner’s Pond in 2001.

Mary Jane will be most remembered for her love of language, poetry, secretarial work, and nature, as well as her sense of imagination and wonder. She nursed many a wild creature back to health and built many a fairy house with grandchildren. In her younger days, Mary Jane volunteered at a nursery cooperative, at her children’s schools, and at the Kennett Square Senior Center.

Mary Jane is survived by her four children and their spouses: Mary Kathryn Moran, Kerstin Mockrish, Robert Mockrish, Sean Moran, Kim Moran, Karen Moran and Wistar Morris; as well as twelve grandchildren; and two sisters: Mrs. Louise Nogami and Mrs. Elizabeth Wright.

Mary Jane’s children are grateful for the wonderful care Mary Jane received from the nurses and staff at Jenner’s Pond/Preston Building and from Willow Tree Hospice

There will be a small, private burial followed by a larger Memorial Service at a later date when grandchildren, family, and others who loved Mary Jane might be able to attend.
