June 18, 1941 – November 28, 2018

From Oxford, PA formerly of Wyckoff, NJ, born and raised in Clifton, NJ.

Gerald “Jerry” Backhus, age 77 of Oxford, PA, died Wednesday at home. Born 1941 in Clifton, NJ, he was the son of the late Paul Backhus and the late Yolanda Csider.

Jerry attended and graduated Clifton High School, Clifton NJ in 1958. Upon graduation he went on to join the Air Force and was stationed in the Azores, and then honorably discharged.  He married the late Joan Sprick, September 13, 1964.  Jerry and Joan enjoyed a loving marriage which lasted 3 days shy of their 50th wedding anniversary at which time the love of his life was called by God. Jerry took on many part time jobs early in his career and worked as a full time salesman for Echo Packaging, Grossman Paper and Joshen Paper. Jerry was ordained an elder in Worldwide Church of God / Grace Communion International where he served for over 50 years.

Jerry is survived by his son, Craig Backhus of Wales, MA and his wife, Michelle (Gardner); their children, Alexandra and Delaney; Daughter, Kymberly Sigismonti of Oxford PA and her husband Ron; their children, Melanie (Schurter)Foss of Goldsboro NC and her husband Jim;  Stephen, Mitchell and Emily Schurter, Brooke and Anthony Sigismonti; His sister Virginia Olah of White House Station NJ. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Joan; parents, Paul  Backhus and Yolanda (Csider) and brother in law George Olah.

All are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, December 3rd, 2018 at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Rd. Parkesburg, PA 19365.  Visitation will be from 10am-11am followed by the service and a luncheon.
