Richard J. Testa, age 74, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

He was the husband of Linda M. Testa (nee Crowell) of Avondale, PA. Richie and Linda were blessed to have recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Born in West Grove, PA, he was the son of the late Augustine Testa and the late Mary Testa (nee Gasperin). Richie graduated from Salesianum High School in Wilmington, DE. He proudly served his country in the United States Army 1965-1967 in Germany as a Tank Commander within the 3rd Armored Division.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Richie selflessly served his community for 59 years as an active volunteer fireman with the Avondale Fire Company. He held numerous leadership positions in both the Executive and Fire Control divisions of the department. He served as Chief Engineer for the past 30 years, overseeing the maintenance of all apparatus and just about anything else that needed to be done around the firehouse.

In addition to his volunteer fire service, Richie spent 44 years at the General Motors Assembly plant in Wilmington, DE receiving numerous awards for improving efficiency.

When not volunteering or working, Richie enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting with friends and family in Somerset County, PA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Augie Testa and wife Mara of Nottingham, PA, son Paul Testa and wife Nikki of Wilmington, DE; his brother, Louis Testa and wife Dolores of Landenberg, PA; 2 grandsons, August and Finn Testa of Nottingham, PA; and 2 granddogs, Bruno and Ollie.

Richie was a humble and generous man, who was always willing to give of himself. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Avondale Fire Company, Station 23, 23 Firehouse Way, Avondale, PA 19311 on Sunday, July 29 at 1:00PM.

  7. It is truly a sad day when good friends leave us. Working with Rich on third shift as he transitioned from production job to a maintenance position was a great opportunity to get to know him better. Following towards Avondale we encountered an auto accident involving a tractor trailer and car. Rich stepped into action contacting the parties needed and directing traffic only after attending to the accident victims. Truly a professional I will never forget the greatness he displayed. He certainly was a calm quiet man and seem to problem solve any situation. It was a pleasure to have worked with him, a good friend…… Web Edwards

  8. Linda, Augie, Mara, Paul and Nikki,
We can’t tell you all how sorry we are on the passing of Richie and how sorry we are we can’t be with you all at this time. Over the years, Joe and Richie were mistaken for brothers, and they always enjoyed it and laughed about it! So many great memories of all of us together and watching our kids grow up together are priceless. May God wrap his arms around you all and give you strength and comfort at this time. We love you all so very much!

  13. Dear Linda, Angie, and Paul
So sorry to read of your loss. Ritchie was a great man and would help anyone. I remember just waiting on him at turkey hill didn’t seem like it was that long ago. He still had his friendly hi and smile. He was a great firefighter and will be remembered by that forever in my mind. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
