John P. Cook

June 11, 1919 - March 1, 2018 West Grove, PA | Age 98 Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend.

John P. Cook, 98 years of age, passed away on March 1st, 2018 in West Grove PA whilst in the care of his daughters. He was a faithful husband and father and a loyal servant to his country. He loved his family and his country.

John was born June 11th, 1919 in Rochester, New York. He was raised by his beloved Grandmother Sharpe. He had said, “Grandmother brought me up and the military finished the job.” He was a man of honor and sacrifice.

John joined the Navy in October 1936. John served in both the Navy and through WWII in the Air Force.

John Pershing Cook and Margaret Oveda Simpkins were united faithfully in love and holy matrimony on November 15, 1947 in Wilmington, Ohio. They together raised a loving family.

John was a humble man that served others without looking or wanting to get any
credit for his quiet unwavering love and dedication. A man one can model their life after. He loved trees, bowling, bridge and chess, the simplicity of hard work and the satisfaction of making his family giggle at every turn. He is and will be undoubtedly within our hearts for all time.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Oveda, and his daughters Carolyn and husband Jim Ryan, Rebecca Dripps as well as Sandra and her husband Martin Brophy. John and Oveda’s grandchildren: Hilary, Christopher, John and Ben, Rachel and Kirstin as well as great-grandchildren: Ella, Hudson, Charlie, Sam, Emily and Logan.

  1. I grew up with a picture of Uncle Jack in his Navy uniform always hanging in our home. I thought he was the most handsome man I had ever seen. When I finally got to meet him, I knew he was also among the best I had ever known. He and Aunt Oveda certainly knew how to bring about an extremely loving, enduring and beautiful family. Love, Kathleen

  2. Jack Cook was a good man. He certainly loved Oveda and the girls. I had the pleasure of working with him in the New Jersey Correctional system. There his posture was one of quiet confidence. The officers and inmate groups reacted favorably to his lead posture. I recall that one of his favorite tasks at home was when he and his daughter rebuilt a car together. We have many happy memories of visits back and forth over the years of a fond friendship. Janet and I send our loving sympathy to Oveda and family. Respectfully, George

  3. To my Aunt Oveda , Cousins Carolyn, Rebecca, and Sanda, what can one say that would take away the hurt of losing a love one. You have been lucky in that you had Uncle John for 98 years. My dad passed away with 80 and that was in 1991 when I was in the Gulf war. Carolyn, Rebecca, and Sandra take real good care of your mom, you know that her and my mom where like good friends instead of sisters. I still have pictures of my mom holding Carolyn somewhere out west. Carolyn thank you for all the updates over the years of your family. I just wish that I could have made it once to Penn. to meet your dad. Cousin Robert
